(n. 1968) traieste si lucreaza in Timisoara. Este absolvent al Facultatii de Arte si design (licenta si master in pictura) din cadrul Universitatii de Vest Timisoara. Miki Velciov abordează un limbaj artistic inedit, printr-o sinteză a genurilor artistice tradiționale, pictură, sculptură, arhitectură, în relație cu noile genuri precum fotografia și video ca martore ale procesului de facere și desfacere a operei, acordând atenție legăturii dintre artă și natură, așa cum observăm în proiectele realizate la Pădurea Verde, Hidrocentrală, Gărâna sau Cetate Arts Danube.
(born in 1968) lives and works in Timisoara. He graduated from the Faculty of Arts and Design (bachelor’s and master’s degrees in painting) at the West University of Timisoara. Miki Velciov approaches a unique artistic language through a synthesis of traditional artistic genres, painting, sculpture, architecture, in relation to new genres such as photography and video as witnesses to the process of making and unmaking the work, paying attention to the connection between art and nature, as we can see in the projects carried out at Pădurea Verde, Hidrocentrală, Gărâna, and Cetate Arts Danube.
Plecând de la conceptul de panopticon – acea structură arhitecturală proiectată de Jeremy Betham la sf. Sec. Al XVIII-lea, prevăzută cu un punct de observare central – Miki Velciov inversează raportul privitorului cu lumea. Cel care observă nu îi vede pe ceilalți precum în panopticon, ci se vede pe sine, în multiple dedublări panoramică la 360°, ca simbol al controlului social, se transformă aici în privire analitică spre propria persoană. Artistul crează o instalație cu punct de vedere privilegia, din care toate oglinzile reflectă imaginea multiplicată a privitorului.
Oglinda, spunea Umberto Eco, este o proteză extensivă care ne ajută să ne vedem din unghiuri cre nu ne sunt accesibile altfel. Miki Velciov exacerbează această proprietate a suprafeței refelctorizante aplelând la simultaneitatea oglindirilor cuprinse într-o structură unitară.
Starting from the concept of the panopticon — the architectural structure designed by Jeremy Bentham at the end of the 18th century, equipped with a central observation point — Miki Velciov reverses the viewer’s relationship with the world. The observer does not see others as in a panopticon, but sees himself in multiple 360°, panoramic splits, as a symbol of social control, transforming himself into a “panopticon.” The observer does not see others as in the panopticon, but sees himself in multiple 360-degree panoramic reflections. The artist creates an installation with a privileged viewpoint, from which all the mirrors reflect the multiplied image of the viewer.
The mirror, said Umberto Eco, is an extensive prosthesis that helps us see ourselves from angles that are otherwise inaccessible to us. Miki Velciov exacerbates this property of the reflective surface by resorting to the simultaneity of reflections contained in a unitary structure.
